Poclain-Driven AGRIMAC Rough Terrain Machines Strengthen their Position on the European Market
Founded in Spain in 1958, AGRIMAC is an independent OEM specializing in rough-terrain forklifts and site dumpers for the agricultural and construction markets. Agile, highly responsive to customer needs, and with a strategic partner such as Poclain to optimize the ground drive, the company has successfully developed a strong position in niche markets alongside much larger manufacturers.
A Shared Culture of Independence and Innovation
AGRIMAC and Poclain Spain began working together in 2016, following a strategic change in AGRIMAC’s transmission approach. Until then, the OEM had used a wide variety of hydraulic solutions and manufactured some of its own axles. Working closely with AGRIMAC’s engineering team, Poclain helped simplify and standardize the machine platforms by introducing hydrostatic transmissions based on wheel motors. This reduced the number of different architectures while improving machine efficiency, performance and operator comfort.
The transition from transaxle to direct drive hydraulic motors delivered significant results.
“We measured a 25% decrease in total cost of ownership on our TW25KX (2.5-ton forklift) when we switched to Poclain,” says Javier Gometza, AGRIMAC CEO.
The new architecture also improved ground clearance, reaching at least 35 cm across the range, as well as driving comfort, with smoother acceleration and effective all-wheel-drive operation.
Today, AGRIMAC’s entire machine range features Poclain motors. Its compact TW12, 1.2-ton forklift uses MSE02 motors at the front and steerable MGE02 motors at the rear. The same motor sizes and transmission architecture are used on the TW16 and TW17, 1.6- and 1.7-ton forklifts, while the larger models, ranging from 2 to 3.5 tons forklifts, are equipped with MSE05 and MGE05 motors.
Turning Market Requirements Into Opportunities
AGRIMAC’s agility enables it to respond quickly to changing market requirements. When preparing its machines for the EU Stage V emissions standard, the OEM adopted 19 kW engines on the rough-terrain forklift models up to 2.5 tons.
This approach enables the forklift trucks to deliver performance comparable to competing models powered by larger engines, while offering a competitive purchase price and a robust transmission with minimal electronic complexity. The efficiency of Poclain wheel motors contributes significantly to achieving this level of performance, together with their ability to deliver high torque in a compact package.
The same 19 kW engine concept is used on AGRIMAC’s 3.5-ton DW35 rough-terrain dumper. Combined with four Poclain Twin-Lock MS05 motors, the transmission provides permanent traction and strong gradeability, together with high power density, competitive operating costs and low maintenance requirements.
