Poclain Featured the HEVO Technology at the 2024 Maha Fluid Power Conference
The Maha Fluid Power Research Center organized its 2024 International Maha Fluid Power Conference in September from 3rd to 5th held at Purdue University, United States. One of the technical contributors was Pierre Bernard, Hydromechanics Engineering Manager at Poclain, and cam lobe motor expert.
Hundreds of researchers, PhD students and industrials, engineers, technical managers, discovered the disruptive hydraulic cam-lobe motor innovation, the HEVO technology from Poclain improving transmission efficiency and reducing energy consumption. After four generations of hydraulic motors, we have designed and built a new generation of motors, the HEVO, which dramatically improves transmission efficiency.
The hydraulic transformer’s challenge successfully addressed
Poclain's Cam-Lobe Innovation team offers a new approach to sizing hydrostatic transmissions, reimagining both motor architecture and the design process.
First, the team developed a motor optimized for the main machine usage based on their case study.
Second, they introduced the 'breakout torque' solution, which locally increases pressure within the motor when additional torque is required — and that’s the key innovation!
The Poclain HEVO booster included into the motor
Poclain’s engineers have developed an integrated pressure booster within the motor itself, delivering impressive results: a 400-bar inlet pressure boosted to a maximum of 800 bar and without any impact on the pressure level of the transmission!
This breakthrough technology is ideal for a wide range of applications in the off-road machinery industries.
Testing on our facility’s track shows that the boosted hydraulic motor, when used in an asphalt compactor for instance, offers significant fuel savings without compromise on performance. A highly promising outcome that opens perspectives for further optimization in the entire system, including the pump, diesel engine, cooling, etc.
