Interview with Yaro Mesquita, Jotaflex owner and Camila Mesquita Cossi, Jotaflex Commercial Director.

Poclain maintain a direct commercial and engineering relationship with its Brazilian clients. Our dedicated team works closely with them, providing expert support during new machine design as well as performance enhancements on existing equipment. Our commitment is further reinforced by the long-standing local support of Jotaflex.

A Family-Owned Leader in Hydraulics

Founded in 1989 by engineer Yaro Mesquita, Jotaflex is a leading hydraulic company based in São Paulo, Brazil. In addition to hydrostatics, the company specializes in fluid contamination control, pneumatic and industrial air equipment. Like Poclain, Jotaflex is a family-owned business. Yaro Mesquita works alongside his daughter, Camila Mesquita Cossi, Commercial Director. He is also a former professor at the University of São Paulo and served for 15 years as Vice President of the Hydraulic Chamber in São Paulo.

“I have been in contact with Poclain since 1987, and when we started Jotaflex in 1989, Poclain appointed us as its distributor representative”, says Yaro Mesquita. “Hydraulics represents 45% of our business today, with a significant share related to Poclain. We provide local service and maintenance for motors, pumps, and valves.”

Over the years, Jotaflex has played a key role in supporting Poclain’s presence in Brazil. Its customer base is primarily composed of companies in the agriculture and construction industries, with additional clients in forestry and mining.
In agriculture and food sectors, OEM applications account for 60% of Jotaflex’s aftermarket services, including combine harvesters, sprayers, and coffee harvesters

The Brazilian Challenge: 8.5 Million Square Kilometers

Serving customers across Brazil is no small feat for the Jotaflex team and Poclain. The country spans 8.5 million square kilometers, making it the fifth-largest in the world —just after the United States.

“Brazil is a vast country and a major food supplier worldwide. Many of our customers are OEMs of agricultural machines and systems, and they play a critical role here,” Yaro Mesquita explains.

He continues:
“From Sao Paulo to the North, it can take three to four days by truck. Meeting customer needs on time is always a challenge in such strategic situations. We also have smaller customers who produce three to five machines per year. The challenge is to serve them promptly and provide explanations, services, or training they expect from us. Our team stays very close to these customers. They compete against big companies and operate in niche markets with local farmers near their factories. Visiting them often means driving five to six hours—but they are Brazilian customers, and they need us.”

Growing Together Through Partnership

Jotaflex is deeply committed to supporting Brazilian companies.

“Our goal and motivation in helping customers build complete systems for their machines is also about developing the Brazilian market and strengthening the reputation of local OEMs.” explains Yaro Mesquita, “That is the main reason we have worked with Poclain for so long—and as the market grows, sales will grow too.”

“We have heard from small customers who say they have been talking to competitors for years about their needs —but no one helps them. At Jotaflex, we go there. We listen. We help them,” Camila Mesquita Cossi says. "These smaller customers may build just five machines and still require aftermarket support. The presence of small OEMs is part of what makes the Brazilian market so dynamic."

“When I visit customers in Brazil, I always introduce Jotaflex as our trusted local partner. Working together with Poclain’s application engineers and Jotaflex, helps ensure long-term performance and reliability, delivering optimal hydrostatic solutions to OEMs across Brazil. Jotaflex team provide invaluable local support to our clients, sharing knowledge and helping us stay agile in the Brazilian market,” says Mauro Scalone, Poclain Sales Representative in LATAM.

Certified Repair Center: A Step Further

This year, Jotaflex strengthened its partnership with Poclain by becoming an official Poclain Certified Repair Center (CRC). The certification recognizes Jotaflex’s investment in equipment, training, and infrastructure.

Ahead of the audit led by Poclain Group Aftermarket Technical Support, Jotaflex acquired a dedicated Poclain test bench to enhance its repair capabilities. To prepare for certification, the Jotaflex team also attended training at the Poclain Hydraulics Training Center (PHTC) in Verberie, France, and participated in a webinar session in May with Stéphane Judlin, Poclain PHTC Trainer.

Although it is too early to confirm whether this growth is directly linked to the recent certification and LinkedIn announcements, the increase in activity is impressive.

“For spare parts we supply a significant volume of head processors. We also gained major in the construction sector, which now represents 40% of our business, along with strong demand from forestry and mining industries”, Camila Mesquita Cossi adds.

Exceptional Logistical Advantages near São Paulo

Jotaflex is based in Jundiaí, a city of more than 460,000 residents, just 37 miles from São Paulo.

Strategically located at the crossroads of Brazil’s most advanced highway network, Jundiaí offers exceptional logistical advantages. The city connects the Port of Santos, Viracopos International Airport, and the São Paulo metropolitan area, creating an ideal hub for shorter lead times and optimized distribution costs.

Jotaflex maintains four to six months of inventory in a 2,000-square-meter facility spread across two levels.

“For aftermarket and spare parts, we need to know how many months of stock we have, how demand is growing, and which machines Poclain and its customers plan to build in the coming years. We must anticipate and prepare inventory to assemble goods and deliver motors or spare parts. It is a significant investment—but it is necessary. Right now, we have 9,500 components in stock and import goods every single week,” Yaro Mesquita explains.

Where regulation and costs are complex to manage for small OEMs, “Jotaflex brings us tremendous values in two ways: first, their deep market expertise and strong knowledge of Brazil complex import rules; and second, their ability to support medium and small companies that lack complete resources for machine development. Jotaflex and Poclain provide this additional expertise,” add Mauro Scalone.

A Multinational Company Mindset

Camila Mesquita Cossi brings a new perspective to Jotaflex from her experience at a multinational company. She has driven major changes, including implementing an ERP system last year—a big step toward digitalization. Camila is preparing the company for significant transformations expected in Brazil from 2026, such as fiscal and importation reforms. Jotaflex is already navigating these challenges and earning recognition for its efforts, including positive audit results and onboarding new customers.

To meet its daily mission, Jotaflex employs a team of 30, including 8 engineers and technicians with strong hydraulic expertise.

“We are growing, and we listen to our team to improve our organization every day. In these challenging times, a healthy work environment and respect for every employee are fundamental for retention. Many of our employees have decades of experience, and we are also hiring new talents,” Camila Mesquita Cossi concludes.
