POCLAIN HYDRAULICS PROVIDES HYDRAULIC DUAL LINE BRAKING FOR THE EU 2015/68 REGULATION
An all-terrain, mud-resistant alternative to pneumatic technology, it is equipped with an electronic control and consists of two solutions:
- VBT for tractors
- EMB for trailer or towed implement.
Both stand-alone solutions are compatible with current market solutions.
In effect on tractors in 2018 and on trailers in certain European countries, the European 2015/68 regulation steps up requirements for on-road braking. For tractor/trailer set-ups, it enforces dual line braking to activate the trailer brakes even if it uncouples from the tractor.
VBT solution for tractor-mounted dual line braking
The VBT solution integrates an electronically controlled valve that modulates pressure sent to the trailer braking system based on the brake pedal force. It manages the control and supplementary lines of the trailer regardless of the braking system used:
- Single-line
- Dual-line
- CUNA type for Italy
One valve body fits all tractor sizes, and braking force adjusts using electronic settings. Beyond mandatory regulation compliance, the system offers four enhancements:
- Ordering control line shut-off in the event of a leakage
- Securing parking brake test functionality
- Filling trailer accumulator
- Synchronizing tractor and trailer emergency braking
Beyond standard functionalities, the VBT solution is also configurable. Options include:
- “Hill Start” - automatic parking brake actuation when the tractor stops on an uphill grade
- “Parklock” - automatic parking brake actuation when the ignition is turned off
If the tractor runs with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), the system can be set to brake the trailer when the tractor decelerates.
EMB solution for trailer-mounted dual line braking
The EMB solution integrates a valve with embedded electronic control. Suitable for single, double or triple axle trailers, braking force adjusts to the trailer weight and force applied to the brake pedal. The system is easy to integrate with weight information from analogic or CAN bus signals. Thanks to the compatibility of the system, trailer manufacturers have the possibility to choose the sensor used to transfer the load information.
If the trailer integrates brake actuators whose volume exceeds 140 cc (8.5 cu.in), the system is upgraded with a pressure amplifier that can charge the accumulator using the low pressure available on the supplementary line. Charging is fully automatic and transparent for the driver.
