How 4.0 Manufacturing Transforms Poclain’s Shop Floor
Achieving industrial excellence relies on the implementation of best-in-class industrial standards and a corporate culture based on the effectiveness and efficiency of working methods for safety, quality and productivity. To address this challenge, we initiated our Manufacturing 4.0 initiative in 2019, which seeks to deploy an operational data platform across all plants.
Streamlining Poclain’s manufacturing apps
Rija Rakotoarisoa, Group IT Lead for 4.0 Manufacturing, and his team have been laying out the foundations to simplify data collection, sharing and improve our operational excellence. Tangible results and a major shift on managerial behavior are underway, particularly at our Brno site where we recently reached the milestone of 2 million motors produced.
How 4.0 manufacturing has impacted Brno’s production
The Brno plant is reaping the benefits of two game changers: group-wide instant and continuous data recording and sharing, and real-time visualization using dashboards. It enables the teams to focus on the root cause and make rapid data-driven decisions.
Using applications like Fabriq, Grafana, Aquiweb, we have moved data recording from paper to digital and share information easily everywhere. Real-time dashboarding let us know exactly where we have issues. This generates significant improvements and time saving for the plant’s operation.
Dashboards enable informed decision-making
According to Giovanni BAFFONI, the Czech Republic Plant Production Manager, there have been significant advancements in production thanks to Manufacturing 4.0.
Another notable example relates to assembly output. Previously, our production target was merely a numerical figure. The introduction of dashboards displaying production by shift and motor type provides us with a wealth of information on the production line, enabling us to understand whether there is a genuine issue and its source. This represents a profound transformation with farreaching implications.
Since 2019, we have made substantial progress, but there is still much work to be done. We continue to collaborate with all Poclain plants to instill a datacentric mindset in our employees and integrate data into their daily decision-making processes. Looking forward, our Manufacturing 4.0 roadmap includes the implementation of predictive machine maintenance and empowering shop floor operators to make informed, data-driven decisions.
