[Case Studies] Poclain Customer Ponsse A Model Of Sustainability
Out of the 19,000 Ponsse machines manufactured since production kicked off in the seventies, 14,000 are still operating thanks to Ponsse’s Second Life used machine refurbish program.
In 2022 second hand machines and remanufactured spare parts represented 16% of Ponsse’s sales turnover worldwide.
“Our machines represent a significant investment for forest management contractors. Thanks to our reman services, their lifetime doubles. Remanufacturing is more affordable for the owner, as parts are on average 30% cheaper than first mount ones. It is also more sustainable. In 2018, we calculated that the carbon footprint is 23% lower when a reman part is selected over a new one” says Ville Ohukainen, Head of Remanufacturing at Ponsse.
Ponsse’s remanufacturing process involves refurbishing critical components such as the transmission, essential mechanical parts, and electronic control units.
Poclain is one of their reman partners for the MS motors that power the swing drive of their harvesting machines. Every year, Poclain refurbishes 100 units in their facilities to support Ponsse’s program.
Overall, Ponsse’s dedication to sustainability through their remanufacturing program, along with the support from partners like Poclain, sets a positive example for the industry and demonstrates how businesses can prioritize environmental responsibility while offering cost-effective solutions to their customers.
